Monthly Baby Pictures… with Donuts

newbornnewborn photography

I’ve had a lot of good ideas in my life, but none of them top my latest idea. This idea is pure gold, ladies and gentlemen. I have decided to take my newborn baby’s monthly pictures… with donuts.

Think about it, there are twelve months in a year that you capture this little baby of yours, and there are twelve donuts in a dozen. I’m pretty sure whoever came up with the idea for the term “dozen” to mean twelve had this exact thought in mind.

Therefore, each month that my daughter hits a new month on the 28th, I will pose her newest monthly pic beside a donut, or two, or three, or eight… you get the picture.

The best part is that this new found prop is not only edible but delicious. And if mom is the one going to all this trouble to locate a donut(s), find a matching outfit and pose a newborn baby for the perfect shot, I think we all know who’s going to get to eat the donut, or two, or three, or eight each month.

I’ve never been so excited for a baby to turn one in my life.

Happy Tuesday, friends!

The Best Staples to Have in Your Closet to Twin with Your Daughter

Mommy and me fashionMommy and me matchingMommy and me outfitMommy and me

Matching denim and floral dresses linked here.

It is safe to say I’m one of those moms that love to twin with her daughter. Now when I say, “twin” with my daughter, what that typically means is I coordinate our outfits to be somewhat matching. We have a few matching outfits that were either purchased or given to us to match, but most of the time when I match my daughter it’s simple outfits that we each have in our closets that coordinate well together. Most of the items that we use to match I did not purchase for the sake of matching, they were just things I already owned in my closet. I couldn’t match my daughter without these staples in my closet.

Solid Colored Shirts or Dresses

So many times when I match my daughter, it’s just a simple, plain colored shirt that goes well with a shirt she has around that color as well.

Common Patterns like Stripes or Plaid

I cannot tell you how many times my daughter and I match with stripes. Whether it’s shirts or dresses we each have a few different items in our closets that contain stripes and they are perfect to match each other. We also have a few other patterns that go well together like plaid, floral, palm leaves, etc.

Jean Jacket

Margot was given a hand-me-down jean jacket which was the perfect staple to easily match with me. If we don’t have a perfect matching outfit, it’s nice to be able to throw this on each of us to bring our style together.

Black Leggings

I love to live in black leggings anyway, so making sure my daughter has a pair that always fits her is a must for matching. It’s easy to pair similar tops or dresses.

Why Pink Blush Has Been My Go To Maternity Store for Two Years

Pregnancy Red Dress

When I learned I was pregnant back in 2016, I hit a point where I was in desperate need of maternity clothes. I had two weddings, three baby showers (one being my own), and just a general need for casual clothes as well as items I could wear to work. I found a few bland pieces at local stores that got me through a month or two. I told myself that I was just going to have to deal with not feeling comfortable or cute in any clothes while I was pregnant for the next few months.

That was before I heard of Pink Blush.

One day while browsing Pinterest I stumbled upon the website Pink Blush, and suddenly realized that I could wear some beautiful, trendy clothes as a pregnant woman, while still being comfortable. These clothes are what I continued to wear after pregnancy when I was still postpartum and not back to my normal weight. Some dresses I was even able to wear after I was back to my normal weight.

Fast forward to 2018 and I am pregnant again, wearing the same beautiful dresses from Pink Blush that I wore during my last pregnancy, as well as some new items that I couldn’t live without.

2018 Pink Blush Favorites

Red Floral Crochet Tassel Tie Maternity Shift Dress

maternity-red-dress.jpg

This dress is one of the most comfortable summer dresses I have ever owned. The polyester material is so light to wear out and about on these warm summer days. It can easily be paired with heels to wear to a formal event, or worn with some sandals to run errands. Just when I thought I couldn’t love this dress more, I realized it has pockets. C’mon ladies, you know we all love a good pocket dress!

When it was shipped to me the tassels were tied together in a bow at the top, but personally, I like the untied look better with an open neckline. This dress is the perfect fit and is designed to be worn before, during and after pregnancy.

Peach Floral Striped Knot Tie Maternity Top

Floral Maternity Top

This floral and striped top is the perfect piece that can be casually worn around town or dressed up to wear to work. The front has a floral pattern with striped sleeves for a unique look, while the back is only stripes. It’s so easy to pair with a simple jean and bootie outfit, or could be dressed up with a black pencil skirt and heels.

It is 95% Rayon and 5% Spandex so it is very comfortable and has the perfect fit. I love the way it fits right around my bump with the knot tie detail on the left side hemline. The best part is I can wear this now at 20 weeks, but I can see that it will easily continue to fit my growing belly until I am full term.

Coral Maternity/Nursing Dress

Coral Pregnancy Dress

This simple, but beautiful dress has been one of my favorites for years. I wore it when I was pregnant with my daughter who is now almost two. I continued to wear it for months after she was born because it was so easy to breastfeed her in this dress. After I got back to my pre-baby weight I could still easily wear this dress, it just had a bit more flow to it.

I constantly wore this dress casually with a pair of flats or sandals and a jean jacket, or dressed it up with heels and wore it to a wedding. It is so versatile while also allowing you to feel so comfortable and cute wearing it.

Mint Floral Chiffon Maternity Dress

This mint floral dress is one of Pink Blush’s most popular items. This was the dress that caught my eye on Pinterest and helped me discover this beautiful range of dresses. I wore this to my baby shower with my first born. It fit so well and was so comfortable to wear. I loved that I could wear this dress with sleeves throughout the summer, and still didn’t get too warm because the sleeve material was so light and airy. It is also double lined to prevent sheerness. This dress continued to fit better and better the more the baby grew.

I have two other friends that bought this same exact dress because they too saw it on Pinterest and they love it just as much as I do. I have never received so many compliments on a dress as I do this one.

Delivery/Nursing Maternity Robe

maternity-robe.jpg

Pink Blush calls these Delivery/Nursing and Maternity Robe’s, but I call them “the comfiest thing I’ve ever put on my body and I wear it every day of my life” robe. When I say that I have worn this robe almost every single day since the birth of my daughter, I’m not lying to you. This is my go-to garment when I get out of the shower, and I wear it all morning long while I get ready until I get dressed in the morning.

I wore it when I was pregnant with my first daughter, and it fit perfectly over my growing belly. It was the comfiest piece of clothing to nurse my daughter in, and I’m so happy that I brought this robe to the hospital with me while I was there for a few days. It is still in beautiful condition and I’m so excited to wear it all the time throughout this second pregnancy as well.

The specific robe I purchased two years ago is not sold anymore, but I have linked two very similar options here and here.

My final thoughts…

Before you go, let me leave you with a few things:

  1. Pink Blush allows you to get 10% off your first order, so you can instantly get a discounted price.
  2. I am so excited that Pink Blush now has regular women’s clothing, so if you become as addicted as me, you can still buy their adorable items even when you’re not pregnant.
  3. Better yet, they have KIDS clothing that you can purchase for your baby or toddler, and you can guarantee you will be seeing more of that from me in the future.

Comment or message me if you have any questions about styling, sizing or fit on any of these cute items!

Thank you to Pink Blush for sponsoring today’s post and for always having the best, quality clothing for pregnant and new mothers! All content and opinions are that of my own!

It’s Okay To Get A Little Wet

playing in the rainrain play

Well it’s official. My daughter is obsessed with being outdoors. She loves going for walks, playing in the yard, but most of all chasing our dog around.

Today it was raining. We needed to let the dog out. I thought, “There is no way she’ll be out for long in this weather”.

Oh how wrong I was. She loved it. But I guess rain is more fun when you’re 1 than when you’re almost 30. We walked from the front yard to the back yard, waved at neighbors, dogs and cars driving by, and of course splashed in puddles. The entire time I watched those cute little pigtails run around, I couldn’t help smiling and enjoying myself despite the cold, dreary weather.

Today Margot reminded me it’s okay to go outside when it’s raining, to jump in puddles when you’re an adult, and to embrace the messy weather. I’ll always be there reminding her that I have an umbrella if she wants to stay dry, but she’ll always be there reminding me that sometimes it’s okay to get a little wet.

#Momlife for Non-Mom’s

Processed with VSCO with t1 preset

#Momlife. It’s a phrase I’ve found myself saying a lot lately.

My daughter is a little over a year and a half old. She literally never stops moving. She’s constantly climbing up and down on the couch, chasing the dog, and getting into every cupboard or drawer in our house. It is truly like a mini tornado running around my house, and I feel like I constantly am putting away tupperware and collecting all my tampons off the floor. So many times I think to myself, “this is my life now”, or simply just… #MOMLIFE.

The other day I was exhausted at 8:30. I had just put my daughter to bed, cleaned up the house a bit, brought up the laundry and began folding. Again I thought to myself, “Man, mom life can be hard some days”.

Then I had a realization. Nope. Life can be hard some days. My tiredness actually had nothing to do with being a mom that day. It was just a long day for multiple reasons, and honestly my daughter had been extremely easy. I did a million loads of laundry before my daughter was around, I cleaned the house every night before she lived here, and there were many nights before she existed that I was tired around 8:30. I realized this wasn’t #momlife, it was just #life.

To my non-mom friends:

It must be hard sometimes to live in a day and age where #momlife is used pretty much daily. I know Instagram right now is a #momlife craze. People (like me) posting pictures of children, and sharing their lives and how hard they are working, and how tough their life can be. Please know, this does not mean we think you are any less important or have it easier. It is most likely a mom just looking to vent, and hopefully find support that they are not totally messing up this little human they are trying to raise. We know you work hard, we know your life can be tough, and we appreciate you just as much as we appreciate other moms.

When my child poops on the floor, decides to smear yogurt on my TV, or clogs my toilet with magnets, you better believe I will still use the hashtag #momlife because that’s exactly what it is. But I will remember that we all have laundry, we all run late sometimes, and we all have bad days whether you’re a mom or not.

Baby

Stop Growing. Or don’t.

22BE4916-C4C6-4261-A4FC-5FE999BB55BBProcessed with VSCO with t1 preset

Since the day I told people I was pregnant I heard the phrase “Don’t blink! They grow so quickly!” over and over again. Everytime someone says that to me I die inside a little more.

In all honesty the past year has gone even faster than I could have imagined. I prepared myself for the days to fly by, and they certainly held up to that expectation. Now that my daughter is over a year old I get all of my old Timehop pictures from last year showing me just how little she was at this time one year ago.

Sometimes I desperately want to go back to those days and squeeze that tiny little baby again. You will hear me say to people, “I wish she would just stop growing”. You may have seen Instagram captions that say, “When did she get so big?” with the crying face emoji.

But in reality I don’t want her to stop growing. I have never enjoyed anything more than watching my daughter grow before my eyes. Watching all that she can do so quickly has been such a fun journey to experience. From feeding herself, to walking, to interacting with other children I am constantly amazed by this little human and how she is slowly becoming more and more a part of the world around her.

You may still hear me say, “stop growing”. Just know that I don’t mean one bit of it.
